St. Nectarios Pilgrimage: Metropolitan Philoptochos‏

With the blessings of his Eminence Metropolitan PAVLOS, the Metropolitan Philoptochos is organizing a Metropolis-wide pilgrimage to St. Nectarios Parish in Escorse, MI, for the feast St. Nectarios on November 21-22, 2009.

This year's Philoptochos Pilgrimage is in support of St. Nectarios Parish in Michigan, as St. Nectarios has been one of the Parishes most effected by the current economic recession. Dinner tickets will be available at Parishes throughout our Metropolis for anyone to purchase as a donation in support of St. Nectarios.

To reserve hotel accommodations, please contact your local parish philoptochos coordinators or Despina Avgoustis ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 734-516-1659).

Orthodox Awareness

The Calendar issue is not a simple religious issue. If one goes back, impartially, to historical sources, he will realize that political and religious differences between East and West are implicated.

Missions

Jonesboro is a town located near the Eastern border of Arkansas, with a population of approximately 60,000. From a human standpoint, it’s not the most likely candidate for a traditional Orthodox mission, but for an Orthodox Christian who orders his priorities around Christ and His Church, it makes perfect sense.

Ask a Priest

Q. In considering becoming part of the GOC in America, I am getting warnings from various circles that the attitude of GOC people is that of being “walled off,” “arrogant,” “judgmental,” and “in your face” toward those not in the Genuine Orthodox Church, with accusations such as “World Orthodox” priests are “not even Christians” and the like. Could you give me your personal, realistic assessment of this dynamic and possibly refer me to an official statement on how GOC members should and do relate to and communicate with those in “World Orthodoxy”?
