Metropolitan Petros of Astoria reposed on January 22, 1997 in Astoria, NY. He was born in Chios, Greece on September 1, 1915. His funeral began at the Cathedral of St Markella in Astoria (which he founded in 1954) and was completed at the Monastery of St Minas in Anthousa, Greece. He is buried at the Monastery of St Minas.
